Viana do Castelo is beautiful and welcoming on its own, but this tour was one of the highlights of our visit. It's much more than a food tour: it's a real window into local culture. We met people deeply rooted in their customs and values, and learned how the city's fishing history still shapes its identity, its traditions and, of course, its food. If you really want to have an outstanding experience and get to know this beautiful place of Viana take the Food and Heritage Tour of João.

Viana is a treasure, and he will open this treasure box for you. On the tour you will meet fishermen in their workshops, learning how the sea shaped the city and their community. You will walk the romantic cobblestone streets of Viana, tasting typical dishes and local vines, relaxing in cafes with local pastries and enjoy good port wine to round up things.

João is born in Viana and a trained chef, so he really knows what he is talking about. He is an excellent guide, entertaining as much as knowledgeable and above all an absolute pleasant person.

Amazing experience! Joao met us with delicious pastries made by 500 years old recipe called half moons and walked us through the town, where we visited small cafes and tasted seafood and sweets. He told us about food and wine heritage of Portugal with big love and passion. Even our 15 years old boy enjoyed the experience :)

We had a privilege of being with Joao for a few hours. He prepared a selection of cheese, wine and seafood for us. We learned a lot and listened to his stories. You can tell that he is very passionate about it. Everything was well prepared and very tasty.

Mieliśmy przyjemność uczestniczyć w wyjątkowym wieczorze seafood połączonym z degustacją regionalnych win z okolic Viana do Castelo i było to jedno z tych doświadczeń, które pozostają w pamięci na długo.

Już od pierwszych chwil zachwyciła nas atmosfera spotkania. Na naszych oczach João przygotowywał świeże owoce morza, dzieląc się przy tym swoją wiedzą i pasją do lokalnej kuchni. Starter w postaci świeżo przyrządzonych morskich specjałów był absolutnie fenomenalny – kraby, krewetki, mule i inne lokalne przysmaki zachwycały świeżością, smakiem i jakością. Wszystko zostało podane w piękny, efektowny sposób, tworząc prawdziwą ucztę zarówno dla podniebienia, jak i oczu.

Dodatkową atrakcją była degustacja pysznych regionalnych serów, które pozwoliły nam jeszcze lepiej poznać lokalne smaki. Starannie dobrane sery doskonale komponowały się z podawanymi winami i stanowiły świetne uzupełnienie całego kulinarnego doświadczenia.

Degustacja win była doskonałym zwieńczeniem wieczoru. João w niezwykle interesujący sposób opowiadał o tradycjach winiarskich regionu Viana do Castelo. Każde wino miało swoją historię, a sposób, w jaki prezentował lokalne szczepy i tradycje, sprawiał, że degustacja była nie tylko przyjemnością, ale również fascynującą lekcją o kulturze regionu.

Największe wrażenie zrobił jednak sam João. To nie tylko świetny kucharz, ale przede wszystkim prawdziwy pasjonat swojego regionu. Z ogromnym zaangażowaniem opowiadał o historii, kulturze, tradycjach i lokalnych zwyczajach, a także polecał miejsca warte odwiedzenia. Jego opowieści sprawiły, że spojrzeliśmy na ten zakątek Portugalii zupełnie inaczej. Dzięki niemu nie tylko poznaliśmy smaki regionu, ale także jego duszę.

Wieczór odbywał się w przepięknym otoczeniu, przy doskonałym jedzeniu, winie i fantastycznej atmosferze, która sprzyjała rozmowom i wspólnemu celebrowaniu chwili. Było w tym wszystkim coś bardzo autentycznego – szczera pasja, ogromna wiedza i prawdziwa portugalska gościnność.

To znacznie więcej niż kolacja czy degustacja win – to wyjątkowa podróż przez smaki, historię i tradycje północnej Portugalii. Sposób, w jaki João opowiadał o swoim regionie, sprawił, że chce się tu wracać i odkrywać kolejne miejsca, które polecał.

After a wonderful first experience during the Local Heritage Tour last year, we didn’t hesitate to book the Loureiro Wine Tasting on our 2nd trip to Viana. We thoroughly enjoyed our food tour. João was very knowledgeable about the history of Viana and food from the area. We started with a tasty pastry and then moved on to try seafood including barnacles which we had never experienced before. The pace and conversation was very casual and pleasant.
